Richard's background as a business trial lawyer is a strong foundation for his work as an arbitrator and mediator.  He is committed to achieving the benefits of ADR--speed, informality, fairness, cost-efficiency and, perhaps most importantly, the ability of the parties to design their own process.

Richard has served as a neutral arbitrator in over 200 arbitrations over the past 20 years.  He is member of the American Arbitration Association's Large Complex Case panel, and the AAA's Class Arbitration and Mediation panels, as well as the CPR Institute's Panel of Distinguished Neutrals.  His experience covers a wide range of business disputes, including such diverse fields as intellectual property, securities, partnership disputes, professional responsibility and employment law.

Before devoting his practice exclusively to ADR, Richard was a litigation partner at Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP.  He was elected a Fellow of both the College of Commercial Arbitrators and the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Richard writes and lectures regularly on ADR topics.  He was a contributing author to the Fourth Edition of the College of Commercial Arbitrators "Guide to Best Practicies in Commercial Arbitration," published in 2017 by Juris Publishing.  See the accompanying pages at the left for more information about Richard's background and experience.

After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University, Richard earned his L.L.B., cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters in 2004, 2005, and 2007 – 2013, and one of The Best Lawyers of America in each of the last eight years.
